R in Action: procurement and AP transformation — guest lecture

A guest lecture to the MBA batch at O.P. Jindal Global University on how data-driven analysis reshapes procurement and accounts-payable — with R as the working lens.

Some subjects only make sense once you see them work. Procurement and accounts-payable transformation is one of them — easy to talk about in the abstract, far harder to feel until you watch the numbers move. That was the idea behind this guest lecture, delivered by Akshay Narayan to the MBA batch at O.P. Jindal Global University in May 2024.

The session, titled R in Action: Dive deep with Akshay into procurement and AP transformation, took a working practitioner's view of how modern finance and procurement functions are actually being reshaped. Rather than treat R as a statistics curiosity, the lecture used it as a lens on the real work — how data-driven analysis changes the way source-to-pay and accounts-payable processes are understood, measured and improved.

For an MBA audience about to step into industry, the value was in the bridge: connecting the frameworks they learn in the classroom to the messy, high-stakes reality of enterprise operations. The questions from the room were the best part — sharp, practical, and exactly the sort a future manager should be asking.

Sessions like this are part of how the Academy engages with colleges and institutions: not as a sales pitch, but as a genuine exchange between practice and the people about to enter it.
